Age and the Totalitarian State

The concept of old age was mentioned in class several times today. There are a number of specific references in the first 10 chapaters that refer to old age and the citizens of the World State - which ones are they?

Thoughts on religion and philosophy

The citizens of the World State live in a religion-free society. Ford is not a deity, in a Christian, Judeist or Muslim way, he is more of a prophet-teacher. They, the citizens of the World State, do not attend churches, temples, or mosques; yet they do congregate with one another and share their thoughts.

Why has Huxley made religion obsolete in his fictatious dystopia? What is is about religion that prevents the citizens of the World State to be 'stable' and 'communal'?

On the topic of philosophy, that too, has somehow been replaced by a different relative. Would you say that philosophy has been made redudant in BNW? Or?
