Minimalism at hand: 'Reading' critically

First, read carefully the given minimalist short story, and then in a paragraph format respond to the ideas/characterization/setting/plot/ etc., crtically, using ONE of the approaches we have studied in class!

'Close the window,' his wife yelled from the other room. 'And do not forget to feed the cat.' Ah, that rotten animal. She has been sneaking in and out of the kitchen for almost a month, and each time she burged in, she brought more havoc with her. Broken pans, pots, cuttlery all over the place. Not to mention all the crushed ice from the ice box. A mess! Slowly, almost effortlessly, he picked one of the kitchen knives and hid behind the big brass door. Now, he felt, was the perfect time to settle old scores. Footsteps down the corridor startled him; an ethereal, almost unearthly cadence appropriated by a robust figure. 'Do not even think about it Edgar!' his wife's expression read as clear as daylight.

Ok - good job everyone!

Some food for thought: The story is a spin off on the idea that Edgar Allan Poe experienced a chanced meeting with a mischevious family cat himself, one that his wife loved and he detested. Since he was not able to get rid of the cat in real life, the writer of this minimalist story supposes that he 'managed' to do so in his fictional life.
